Tyger's tail
On the Dug Road, dark pavement and dim trail lights
humid orange rings, drawing away
above, the distant sky splitting the trees in two, almost meeting the path at its vanishing point
far ahead, a couple holding hands, walking.
Now an old love
now disquiet
the two of them held so gently in it, a great eternity of sky above their heads.
Someday eternity will arrive, the trail and the sky will be one
the sudden swish of some great cat’s tail.
To be given this in a symbol, to not see it
is a blessing.
A great blessing it is too that such unseeing is not always grasping alone in the dark
but sometimes holding hands on a path lit like this
that such wild beauty will reveal itself now and then
and seem intent on our love.

Such a soothing and warm poem, Nate. Love your new writing.
